Australia and New Zealand lit up with fireworks in Sydney and Aukland, respectively, when they rang into the New Year 2022. With Omicron viruses growing all over India and the world, various restrictions have forced people to stay home this New Year’s Eve. When we say goodbye to the old year on Friday, the night can be much calmer around the country with curbs hitting all states.
As the New Year rings in, most countries are either on the verge of or in the midst of a new wave of coronavirus infections, thanks to the Omicron variant of the virus. While both the US and the UK have reported a record number of cases every day, experts in India believe the country is on the brink of a third wave.
Restrictions have been tightened across India for New Year celebrations. While festivities have been completely banned in states like Delhi and Karnataka, others have imposed strict restrictions, such as curfews, to control the spread of the virus.
Also internationally, the festivities in Italy, Paris and London’s Trafalgar Square have been canceled.
