Amritsar: Youth Disrupts Religious Service in Golden Temple, Killed | Amritsar News – Times of India

AMRITSAR: A young man was allegedly killed by a raging sangat and sewadars at. Golden Temple in Amritsar after carrying into the sanctum sanctorum of the sanctuary during the lecture on ‘Rehras Sahib’ on Saturday night, he stepped on ‘Rumala Sahib’ and picked up the sword in front of Sri Guru Granth Sahb’s ‘Saroop’.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Parminder Singh Bhandal confirmed that the young man was killed.
Singh told reporters that the young man, believed to be between 20 and 25 years old, was wearing a yellow patka.
“He stood calmly with sangat while offering sanctum sanctorum, but when his turn came he jumped over the railing and took up the sword,” he said

The young man was immediately overpowered and was brought outside, and on the way he was beaten by sangat, after which he succumbed to his injuries.
The DCP said his body was sent to the morgue and that an autopsy would be performed on Sunday.
DCP said police did not find any ID card or document on the body. Police would also check the CCTV footage to determine if he was alone or accompanied by others, he said.
Fateh Singh, an eyewitness, said that during the performance of rehras, the young people jumped over the railing with intentions of sacrilege and tried to touch ‘Saroop’ by Sri Guru Granth Sahib with his feet. But he was immediately captured and taken to room number 50.
Another eyewitness said the young man also tried to pick flower petals located nearby.
Baljinder Singh, another eyewitness, claimed he broke two fingers of the young man while trying to stop him.
“We asked his identity, but he said he did not know himself, sangat hit him with iron bracelets on the head and killed him,” he claimed.
Punjab Prime Minister Charanjeet Channi said in a series of tweets that the matter will be investigated to uncover the real motive. He called the alleged attempted sacrilege “the most unfortunate and heinous act.”

Former Punjab CM Prakash Singh Badal and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also condemned the incident.
