“Amethi is still the same, but …”: Rahul Gandhi’s March Against Center

Amethi / New Delhi:

Rahul Gandhi led Congress’s ban on attacks on the central government today as he led a march in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi, his former Lok Sabha constituency. Priyanka Gandhi Vadhra, his sister and the party’s UP leader, was by his side as Congress found its feet while the BJP worked hard to secure another term in a row.

When he visited Amethi for the second time since the Lok Sabha loss in 2019, Mr Gandhi, 51, said: “Every lane in Amethi is still the same. Only that there is anger towards the government in the eyes of the people.”

“In the hearts there is room as before. We are still united against injustice,” he added, leading the anti-inflation meeting. “I entered politics in 2004. Amethi was the city where I ran in my first election. People in Amethi have taught me a lot about politics. You have shown me the way to politics and I want to thank everyone.”

India’s border conflict with China, farmers’ deaths in protest sites and “Hindu vs Hindutvawadi“jibe on the BJP figured in his speech.

“A Hindu spends his whole life walking the path of truth. A Hindu never succumbs to his fears – he faces all his fears. He never lets his fears turn into anger, hatred. But a Hindutvawadi only uses lies to stay in power. Mahatma Gandhi ji said that a Hindu way is the way of satyagraha, “said Mr Gandhi, Congressman from Kerala Wayanad.

Amethi had been the stronghold of Congress until Rahul Gandhi lost to BJP’s Smriti Irani in 2019 by over 50,000 votes.

This was one of the many blows that came the party’s path ever since BJP took charge of the center in 2014.

Today’s six-kilometer-long foot march in Amethi comes exactly one week after top congressional leaders – including Sonia Gandhi – held a meeting in Rajasthan to highlight what they called the center’s failures. Rahul Gandhi had struck out against the BJP with the “Hindu vs Hindutvawadi” jib in Rajasthan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also frequented the state over the past few weeks to launch several government projects months ahead of the polls.

However, the launch of all these projects just before the polls has also led to attacks from rivals.

Targeted at the BJP government in the state and center, Rahul Gandhi, who stepped up the attack, spoke today about Prime Minister Modi’s major Varanasi launch. “You are aware of the situation today. Unemployment and inflation are the biggest questions that neither the Prime Minister nor the Prime Minister will answer. Prime Minister Modi took a dip in Ganga a few days ago but will not talk about unemployment. I will tell you, why the young person is being deprived of employment. ”

“The middle class and the poor were hard hit by some of the decisions taken by the Prime Minister, which also resulted in large-scale unemployment. Demonetization, mistakenly implied GST, no help during the Covid crisis are the main causes of unemployment in India.”
