KR Ramesh Kumar: ‘When rape is inevitable, lie down and enjoy’; Karnataka Congress MLA KR Ramesh Kumar Initiates Controversy | Hubbali News – Times of India

BELAGAVI: Formerly Karnataka Assembly speaker and senior Congress MLA KR Ramesh Kumar Friday apologized in the assembly for his controversial ‘enjoy rape’ comment.
“If it hurts women’s feelings, I have no problem apologizing. I apologize from the bottom of my heart,” Ramesh said.
After apologizing on the floor of the assembly, spokesman Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said that “the MLA has apologized and let’s not drag it anymore.”
Ramesh created controversy in the assembly on Thursday by saying “when rape is inevitable, lie down and enjoy it.”
The insensitive remark came when MLAs began demanding time from speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri to discuss the issue of crop loss. Soon, a video of the controversial statement went viral, much to the embarrassment of Congress.
When the debate over crop loss due to untimely rain was extended by several members seeking time to talk about the topic, an outraged Kageri said his attitude was like one being forced to enjoy an unfavorable situation when forced one.
“I have no objection to more members talking about the topic, but my concern is that no other business can be done if we stick to a particular topic. My attitude is like someone who would enjoy something when it is inevitable, “said Kageri looking at Ramesh Kumar, who said,” There is a saying – when rape is inevitable, lie down and enjoy it. ” Kageri chose not to delete the note from records.
When Kumar was an assembly speaker, he had compared himself to a rape survivor when his name appeared in a controversial audio clip.
One day after the recent gang rape of a university student in Mysuru, Interior Minister Araga Jnanendra had caused outrage with his statements by ‘joking’ with the incident. The minister accused Congress of ‘politicizing’ it and said on August 26: “Rape has taken place there (Mysuru). But Congress is trying to rape the interior minister here.”

Congressman MLA Ramesh Kumar also apologized on Twitter for her statement about rape.
“I would like to express my sincere apologies to everyone for the indifferent and negligent comment I made at today’s assembly on ‘Rape!’ My intention was not to downplay or shed light on the heinous crime, but a remark outside the cuff! I will choose my words carefully in the future, “Ramesh tweeted.
