New Delhi:

An IndiGo Airlines loader fell asleep in the hold of the Mumbai-Abu Dhabi plane but was found safe and sound on arrival in the UAE capital, DGCA officials said today.

After loading luggage into the plane, one of the loaders of the private carrier fell asleep behind the luggage in the hold of Sunday’s flight, they said.

The cargo door was closed and the loader woke up as the plane took off from Mumbai airport, officials said.

After the plane landed in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a medical examination of the loader was performed by the authorities in Abu Dhabi and his physical condition was found to be stable and normal, they said.

After obtaining the necessary permits from the Abu Dhabi authorities, he was sent back to Mumbai as a passenger on the same plane, officials from the Directorate-General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) said.

Airline staff involved in the incident have been ruled out pending an investigation, they added.

Asked about the case, a spokesman for IndiGo told the PTI news agency: “We are aware of the incident and the necessary authorities have been informed. The case is under investigation.”
