Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu extended its restrictions banning public assemblies to religious, cultural and political reasons until 31 December. Moreover, the state would not allow the public to be present at the beaches on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day. At the same time, Delhi has CM Arvind Kejriwal has said the national capital was ready to deal with the threat from the new variant. He also said that although such restrictions are not necessary at the moment, he was prepared to impose restrictions in UT for Christmas and New Year celebrations if necessary.

On the global front, the Canadian city of Kingston has decided to limit the assemblies to a maximum of five people as the Omicron variant spreads across the country. Kingston is one of the many regions in Ontario that have taken the initiative to announce new measures for public health. However, the spread of Omicron in the local community has been confirmed in Kingston, making it crucial for the city to take stricter measures. The restriction would be in place until at least December 20th. Meanwhile, California has also witnessed an increase in cases and has therefore brought back the mask mandate so cases can be prevented from spreading, especially with holidays just around the corner.

Meanwhile, India reported 5,784 fresh coronavirus cases within the last 24 hours, the lowest in 571 days, bringing its total number of Covid-19 cases to, according to data from the EU Ministry of Health said on Tuesday. The number of active cases in the country has dropped to 88,993, the lowest in 563 days, the health ministry said. The death toll due to the viral disease has risen to 4.75.888 with 252 more deaths according to data at. 8.00. The one-day increase in new Covid-19 infections has reached below 15,000 in the last 47 days now.
