Indian railways will soon serve only vegetarian food on some trains


Indian Railways – Train passengers will soon get only pure vegetarian food, but the facility will be available on select routes. Railways catering and ticketing subsidiary IRCTC plans to promote “vegetarian friendly travel” by getting some “sattvic certified” trains.

It is the first time that the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will ensure that vegetarian foods provided by the agency and its suppliers are certified.

According to a statement from Satwic Council of India, has partnered with the IRCTC to introduce vegetarian food services and promote vegan food on train routes connecting religious destinations.

The first train that is likely to be certified “sattvic” is the one from Delhi to Katra Vande Bharat Express. The final stop of the Delhi-Katra train is the Vaishno Devi temple. According to the council, the formula could be replicated on around 18 more trains, including the recently launched Ramayan Express.

“IRCTC base kitchens, executive lounges, budget hotels, food courts, tour and travel packages, Rail Neer plants will be ‘sattvik’ certified to ensure ‘vegetarian friendly travel,’ said the Council. Sattvik from India in a statement, launching the “sattvic” certification scheme together with the IRCTC on November 15. They will also create a vegetarian cooking manual.
