The “most modern” Habibganj railway station in Bhopal has been renamed in honor of the Queen of Gond, Rani Kamlapati, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Saturday, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this decision.
Chouhan praised Rani Kamlapati as the pride of the Gond community and the last Hindu queen of Bhopal, whose kingdom was usurped by Afghan commander Dost Mohammed through deception.

The Madhya Pradesh government had on Friday written to the Ministry of the Union of the Interior Ministry for renaming the improved Habibganj train station, stating that it will honor the legacy and bravery of the widow of Nizam Shah’s ruler Gond.

The Gond community comprises the largest tribal group in India with over 1.2 million inhabitants.
On Thursday, Bhopal BJP deputy Pragya Singh Thakur had demanded that Habibganj station be renamed in honor of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Rani Kamlapati Train Station is located in the city of Bhopal and is part of the Central West Railway.
Rani Kamlapati is said to be the widow of the Gond ruler of Nizam Shah, the head of Ginnorgarh.
The Kamlapati Palace, overlooking the Upper and Lower Lakes of Bhopal, is named after Queen Gond.
