The chairwoman of the Delhi Women’s Commission, Swati Maliwal, criticized actress Kangana Ranaut for her comments on the country’s independence.

The actor unleashed a storm on Thursday after declaring at an event recently that India actually won freedom in 2014, when the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power, describing the country’s independence in 1947 as “bheek” or alms.

Tweeting the video In which Kangana Ranaut made the remarks at an event organized by a news channel, Swati Maliwal said: “She (Kangana Ranaut) meets Bhagat Singh, (Chandra Shekhar) Azad and (Mahatama) Gandhi’s freedom struggle as alms, but enjoying the slavery of ruling the government is real freedom. For this thought she received a national award? “

In the 24 second clip, Kangana Ranaut says that India’s independence in 1947 was not freedom but “bheek” (alms). “… Of course, azaadi nahi thi vo bheekh thi. Aur jo azaadi mili hai vo 2014 me mili hai (Of course, what we got [in 1947] It was not Independence but charity. Independence is what we got in 2014). “You can hear some people in the audience clapping.

The always combative Kangana Ranaut, whose Twitter account has been suspended, responded on Instagram.

“Although I clearly mentioned the revolution of 1857, the first fight for freedom that was stopped … which led to more atrocities and cruelties on the part of the British and almost a century later we were given freedom in the begging bowl of Gandhi … Ja aur roo ab, “he said in his Insta stories.

Ranaut, who received a Padma Shri earlier this week, also took aim at Congress in his comments on the show. “If we get freedom as a ‘bheek’, is it even freedom? What the British left in the name of Congress … They were the extension of the British …” he said.

In reaction to Kanagana Ranaut’s comments, Congress said her comments amounted to “treason” and demanded that the government withdraw the Padma Shri that it recently awarded her, as she has “insulted” the country’s independence movement.

Echoing Congress, the NCP on Friday demanded the recall of Padma Shri conferred on the actor and said she should be booked for insulting freedom fighters.

Delhi BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor also criticized the actress for her comments and demanded that the judiciary take action against her. The Delhi BJP spokesman said Ranaut’s remarks are an “insult to the sacrifice of freedom fighters.”

Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil also said actor Kangana Ranaut’s comment was completely wrong. He said the actress can appreciate PM Modi’s work for the past seven years but has no right to criticize the struggle for Independence.
